sophiegayotgordonramsayWorld-renowned food critic Sophie Gayot began her culinary career the moment she was old enough to eat, sleep and ride in an airplane. From this vantage point, she experienced a rare glimpse of the best the world had to offer while discovering her natural talent as a food and lifestyle critic. She is the daughter of André Gayot, the co-founder of the famous GaultMillau guides which have revolutionized the world of gastronomy.

Today, Sophie is celebrated for her witty, straight forward and discerning attitude, which influences the distinct voice of her family’s international website, GAYOT.com. The popular online guidebook is well-respected for its comprehensive reviews and for setting the standard for restaurant ratings to a vast audience of passionate foodies seeking cutting edge lifestyle experiences.

Having held solid ground in the food, wine and travel industry for many years, Sophie is on a first name basis with the best chefs in the world, from the celebrity gourmet chefs such as Wolfgang Puck, Daniel Boulud, Thomas Keller and Nobu Matsuhisa, to the best food stand vendors around the world.

You may have experienced Sophie’s eager spirit and frank nature as a judge on Hell’s Kitchen, Season 4, where she was named “one of America’s finest food critics” by star-chef Gordon Ramsay, as well as on the opening episode of Season 7, and the 100th episode the show included in season 8. On her second appearance on the nationally syndicated CBS TV show “The Insider,” Sophie was presented as “one of the most feared food critics.” She has been featured on KTLA-TV Morning News in Southern California numerous times, including a week’s worth of segments shot live on-location from Paris. She has also made appearances on the nightly news as well as French television station RFO. She often appears on “The Business Hour” with Frank Mottek on Los Angeles radio KNX1070 AM, on the Jamie Gwen, The Bikini Chef, The Kiki Vale Chicago and Grape Encounters radio shows discussing her latest culinary discoveries. She has served five times as jsophie-gayotudge at the prestigious Nestlé Waters North America “Almost Famous Chef” competition, evaluating young cooking talents along with top chefs including Michel Richard and Eric Ripert. NBClosangeles.com says about her: “It’s probably just about the tastiest surname in all the land.” Both Bloomberg TV and USA TODAY agree that she is an expert in her field, while the magazine France-Amérique called her “the Anna Wintour of Gastronomy” and placed on her on “50 French people who are influential in America” list. On GAYOT.com, you can also enjoy her intimate video interviews with chefs and celebrities, and follow her on GAYOT.com’s blog and on her photo gallery. She has received a “Certificate of Recognition” by the City of Los Angeles for her “discerning attitude”.

Sophie has long been involved in a variety of philanthropic organizations. She has played the role of Honorary Chair, seven years in a row, at the elegant Flavors of Los Angeles Culinary Gala for the American Liver Foundation, and March of Dimes LA Gala in 2010. She is a dedicated supporter of the Concern Foundation as well as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which raises funds for cancer research scientists.Starlette_cake

In addition to her title as illustrious restaurant and hotel critic, which means a continuous search for the most exciting restaurants, hotels, spas and special events, Sophie is the public face of GAYOT.com. In charge of public relations, she is constantly traveling between Paris and Los Angeles, acting as France and America’s “ambassador” of travel and gourmet living.

Completely bi-lingual in French and English, Sophie was born and educated in Paris. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business from the prestigious Dauphine University and her MBA from the Institut Supérieur du Commerce. She is the proud mother of a teenage son, Alexandre.
